French President Emmanuel Macron, who was indicted on charges of assault by Rama government officials and Renaissance officials, has made earlier statements about the decision not to open negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia at the meeting of European Council held on 17-18 October.
Macron was backed by the Netherlands and Denmark, who maintained a firm stance, arguing it with Albania’s failure to meet conditions. Whereas in the case of Northern Macedonia, the negative decision was related to the French refusal, which judged it wrong to split the process for the two countries.
“I must say that most of them were in favor of starting negotiations with Northern Macedonia, but almost half were against Albania. Fatal mistake, ”President Macron said in an interview with The Economist.
The French president seems determined against enlargement, saying the process is pointless.
“It is absurd to open a purely bureaucratic process,” he said.
Macron even thinks that even declaring that failure to open negotiations could lead to an increase in Russian, Chinese or Turkish influence in the region is not true.
