Another ‘slap’ from the Netherlands for Albanians. Following a skeptical stance on the Dutch government launching EU membership talks, the “Transavia” airline will cut off flights to Tirana.
Transavia will stop weekly weekly flights from Amsterdam to Tirana in April 2020. Announcement of cancellation of flights to Albania has been communicated through social networks.
“We have not been flying to Tirana since April 2020, in part due to our lack of enthusiasm and limited interest. Maybe if you take a look at our website, another destination will catch your attention, ”the company said in a response to a twitter customer’s decision.
Following the news, it has also recently launched an online petition to overturn the decision, as well as enable flights from Rotterdam or Eindhoven to maintain direct flights to Tirana.
Part of these calls was made also the writer Flutura Açka, who lives between Albania and the Netherlands. She points out that the closure of this line severely damages Albanian tourism, which has experienced significant growth.
This airline operated ‘low cost’ for two years and in winter Transavia served Albanians twice a week, and three times a week in summer.
