An investigative report that sheds light on how Albanian children under the age of 18 receive a regular residence permit in Italy, was reported yesterday by Italian television “Le lene”.
The Italian immigration law provides that every child under the age of 18, who is abandoned and in difficult living conditions, obtains a residence permit and the state grants the right to education and housing.
Taking into account the benefits of the law, many Albanian parents have returned to the streets to accompany the children to Italy, leaving them in the streets where they are forced to declare themselves abandoned to the local authorities.
Already, the number of “abandoned” Albanian children has increased considerably, becoming a problem for local municipalities. The Social Welfare Manager in Piancagna Municipality Stefano Cugini says 73 percent of “abandoned” children in this city are Albanians.
