Prosecutor Sonila Muhametaj has been confirmed on duty. Based on the decision made public by the KPK, the Serious Crimes Prosecutor has gone through the Vetting process.
The panel headed by Genta Tafa Bungo, Suela Zhegu with Etleda Ciftja rapporteurs, noted no problems in the reassessment criteria. The KPK even rejected two findings from the Supreme Prosecutorial Council, alleging procedural violations of Muhametaj.
During the hearing, Muhametaj gave detailed explanations regarding the property and also touched upon the cases for which he was denounced. She said her income was enough to cover the expenses, while she said she had lived a modest life and requested “to continue in her role as prosecutor of the Republic of Albania”.
Sonila Muhametaj graduated from the School of Magistrates in 2007 and has been appointed prosecutor in the Kruja Prosecutor’s Office. In 2014, she was transferred to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office, while in 2015 she was decreed by the President as a Prosecutor of the Serious Crimes Prosecution.
In September 2018, Sonila Muhametaj was one of three prosecutors transferred by order of Chief Prosecutor Arta Marku. Muhametaj filed an appeal against the ruling with the Administrative Court and won the case, returning from the Puka Prosecution to Serious Crimes.
