Germany has again given hope to Albania and North Macedonia for the opening of negotiations, following the ‘No’ that took place two days ago in Brussels.
But for the German CDUCSU group, Albania must meet the conditions set by Germany to hope for the next round to receive ‘OK’ from all EU member states.
“The road to the EU stays open for Albania and North Macedonia. Both countries must continue their reform efforts, ”the CDU / CSU said following Friday’s EU decision not to open negotiations on Albania and northern Macedonia.
“I call on both countries to get the European Council’s negative vote, as an incentive to continue all reform efforts. If these were followed, the suspects would be strengthened. Paris will not be able to halt accession negotiations a second time. The Bundestag is in pursuit of the reform agenda for its decision. Germany stands for a European perspective of the Western Balkans ”, stated the group’s Vice President Johann Wadephu.
On the other hand, responsible rapporteur Christian Schmidt has called for the decision to be reviewed immediately.
“The negative decision of the European Council should be reviewed immediately. The link between Northern Macedonia and Albania with the European Union should not be blocked. We share the conviction that for all Western Balkan countries, there is a place in the European Union if they meet the criteria.
This ultimately involves starting the negotiation process. The conditional decision of the September Bundestag, which sets clear conditions for the opening of accession negotiations, should also point the way to approval for French, Dutch and Danish concerns. If the EU does not care about the Western Balkans, other powers will make it their sphere of influence. Nobody wants this, ”he said.
Recall that Germany set 9 conditions for Albania, most of which relate to Justice Reform and Electoral Reform.
