Few days after the financial scandal erupted in the BESA fund, media attempts are being made to divert the focus from the fraudulent scheme, by suspiciously dealing with suburban names, which do not appear to be part of the operation carried out by its employees arrested of this non-banking institution.
The media of Albanian-Italian businessman Carlo Bollino have given significant space to the name of notary Edlira Malaj, “the wife of an important judge in Tirana”, which, according to an article by “albanian.com”, turns out to be ” lending “a sum of money with which the director of Besa’s branch, Albana Imami, to cover the deficits created by the pyramid scheme.
Bollino’s media refer to the material, which has also been viewed by Boldnews.al, on the basis of which the Prosecution requested the court to impose a security measure on some persons suspected of involvement in the scheme.
In the material compiled by prosecutor Kole Hysenaj, the name of the notary Edlira Malaj is mentioned in two episodes. In one, she, in the capacity of a notary, has drawn up a loan contract between Albana Imami and a businessman who has lent money to the director of the Besa fund affiliate.
In a second episode, the text written by prosecutor Hysenaj is weak and incomprehensible to reach a clear conclusion as to whether Malaj has once again been in the role of notary or lender. Also, at the moment, unlike all other names that result in lenders for the Fund, the notary’s name is not related to any monetary amount.
So, prosecutor Hysenaj, in his ambiguity, did not give any concrete indication to the notary Malaj. The Prosecution’s material is hazy at this point.
But not so much for Bollino’s media, who have decided not only to include but also give considerable space to the notary’s name in a fraudulent scheme story, to which she has nothing to do.
Bollino’s media appear to have mentioned her name to appear elsewhere – to her “husband, important judge in Tirana”, a treatment “attractive” to the public.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has often used this “appealing tool”, namely the mention of judges or prosecutors, in group or by individual names, to draw attention to his embarrassment following periodic revelations of abuse of power.
The same pattern is occasionally followed by certain media, which include, even unfairly, cases of judges or their relatives, most likely, for two reasons – to attract readings and to attract attention.
Bollino’s media, with an independent logo, perhaps even for editorial elections, turns out to be sympathetic to the government, at precisely the moment of Edi Rama, Erion Veliaj and other majority officials.
Bollino’s media have taken a defensive approach to Erion Veliaj, when the opposition and a significant part of civil society consider the mayor of Tirana as the main responsible for the death of 17-year-old Ardit Gjoklaj in the Sharra landfill in August 2016.
A defensive approach was also introduced by the Bolinos media in the case of Valdrin Peter, who changed course only when Edi Rama “sold” the mayor out of the June 30 monist vote.
A very belligerent attitude was held for Mihal, who was mostly “Koco Kokedhima’s cousin”. But the Bolinos media did not “discover” or care about the fact that Mihal of the “fast and furious of Porto Palermo” was, at the same time, the son of aunt of Petro Koci, the Deputy Minister of Defense in Edi Rama’s government,
Now that Edi Rama must also account for the embarrassment of dealing with Vora’s “Kajmaku”, Bollino’s media have “found” a mechanism to link the Besa fund scandal to “the wife of an important judge”.
The motto seems clear – Better to deal with “judges’ wives” than with Kajmak and other “Renaissance”s Kajmaks.
