The French Embassy in Tirana sends a letter to the highest state authorities calling for the release of Domar Konjari court, also known as one of the former members of the “Bardhyl Street” band in Tirana. The letter stated that France spent millions of euros on Konjari’s investigation, while Albania did not respect the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters.
The release of Domar Konjari from the Court of Appeals for Serious Crimes has caused strong reactions not only in Albania but also in diplomatic offices.
Boldnews.al has a letter from French Ambassador to Albania, Bernard Fitoussi, who sends it to the highest judicial authorities in our country.
The letter raises the main concern of the Appellate Court’s decision of 14 March to lift the detention order in Konjarin. Ambassador Fitosussi opposes his release, as Konjari is convicted in France for serious criminal offenses.
“Domart Konjari was sentenced in absentia on 13 November 2015, by the First Instance Court of Rennes of France to 10 years in prison, of which he can not do less than six years in prison, with a permanent ban on French territory; and with a fine of 2.6 million euros “- said Ambassador Fitoussi’s letter.
To prove this, the French embassy notes that after arriving Konjari in November last year, a 34-page document has arrived in Albania, which is the product of a thorough investigation by the French authorities since 2011.
Among the charges weighing on Konjari and mentioned in the ambassador’s letter are: import, custody, transportation, drug trafficking, creation of a criminal group, and money laundering by drug trafficking.
“He is known as the leader of an international cocaine traffic network, active in more than six countries, a network involving forty and five people from five different countries, including the French,” he said in a letter diplomatic.
Boldnews.al learns that official letter has arrived in the address of the President of the Republic Bujar Nishani, High Council of Justice and Minister of Justice Ylli Manjani. While aware of the letter are also Prime Minister Edi Rama together with Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.
At the end of Ambassador Bernard Fitoussi’s letter, hints that Albania has not implemented the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters. That’s because French justice has asked Albanian justice to prosecute this Albanian citizen, but the court has already released it.
