The Chairman of the Supreme Prosecutorial Council, Gent Ibrahimi, was present today at a hearing at the Independent Coordination Commission, a structure set up by the Albanian Parliament, on delays in setting up the SPAK.
Ibrahim has said that this structure has not yet been set up because the list of 15 candidates for the Special Anti-Corruption Structure has not yet gone through the vetting process.
According to the head of the KLP, the proposed candidates should pass the veto by a final decision.
“KLP has approved the list of 15 candidates for SPAK member. There is still no SPAK today because the veterinary process has not yet been finalized by a final decision. It is up to us to say whether it is possible for SPAK to start with 10 members. In making this decision we will need to consider some practical elements as well, ”Ibrahim said.
While he responded to the concern of the members of the Independent Coordination Commission about the possibility of verifying the candidates, so that convicted individuals do not pass in this special structure.
“I remember that every prosecutor who goes to the SPAK goes through promotion and as prosecutors he has to pass the veto and so I believe we avoid that. These verifications are done by the vet. The issue you raise may be for the future, as we will not always have the vetering, ”Ibrahim said.
